SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Department of Public Works will consider several factors when deciding which roads to plow this winter.

When the snows come, City Council members "will probably get calls from people wondering when their street will get plowed," said City Manager Jon Douglass.

To prepare them for those calls, Jay Lancaster, public works director, briefed the Council during their Monday meeting on DPW's plans for this winter.

City officials are working to determine "priority routes" for snow removal following winter weather events with "hills, curves and intersections" at the top of the list, Lancaster said, along with high volume roads.

The Department is also working with school officials so they can provide an extra focus on school bus routes, he said.
