Tractor trailer fire closes I-55 Wednesday evening

NEW MADRID -- Drivers heading northbound on Interstate 55 found the going slow Wednesday evening due to a tractor-trailer fire.
According to Cpl. Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at just before 5 p.m. a tractor-trailer hauling cars on Interstate 55, near the 57-mile marker, caught on fire, causing the cars it was hauling to catch on fire.
The fire closed both northbound lanes of Interstate 55 and then closed one lane for a couple of hours.
The Patrol, Missouri Department of Transportation and the New Madrid County Fire Department responded to the fire, and no injuries were reported.
