SIKESTON -- If you time your raking right, you won't need any bags for your leaves.
Sikeston's annual leaf collection program starts Monday, according to Brian Dial, street superintendent for the Sikeston Department of Public Works.
Those who live on the west side of Main Street should put their leaves out Sunday for the first collection by the city's two leaf collection machines Nov. 17-21.
"We generally try to make two passes through town," Dial said. "We will have a machine on the northwest side of town and the southwest. We start at 7 a.m. and usually stop around 3:30 in the afternoon so we can get the leaves dumped and equipment put up at the shop before we get out at 4 p.m."
The first collection for streets on the east side of Main will be Nov. 24-28.
The second collection for the west side of town is scheduled Dec. 1-5 followed by the second collection for the east side Dec. 8-12.
Street division crews will do their best to stay on schedule but if put behind by inclement weather, "we will get to them as soon as we can," Dial said.
