PREP ROUNDUP: Sikeston falls on the road to Greene Co. Tech 68-61

PARAGOULD, Ark. -- The Sikeston Bulldogs fell to 2-3 on the season Tuesday following its 68-61 road loss to Greene County Tech in Paragould, Ark.

Sikeston's current three-game losing streak is its first since 2006.

Senior Corbyn Blissett led Sikeston with 20 points while freshman Fred Thatch added 16. Sikeston went 15 of 28 from the free throw line.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday when they host conference rival Notre Dame with junior varsity starting at 6 p.m.

ADVANCE -- The Scott County Central Braves (6-1) had three players in double figures during its 69-54 road win over Advance Tuesday.

Javonta Daniel led the pack with 24 points, Jeffery Porter added 17 points, nine rebounds and eight assists while Matt Blissett had 13 points on 6 of 9 shooting.

Risco 61, Cooter 73

CLARKTON -- The Risco Tigers fell to Cooter 73-61 Tuesday during the consolation semifinals of the Clarkton Holiday Tournament.

Risco, who lost to top-seeded Gosnell, Ark., 73-38 during the first round, was led by Drew Fortner's 21 points. Cody Young added 14 and Luke Simmons had 12.

Cooter was paced by Riley Hickerson's 23 points. Tyler McLevain chipped in 16 and Kyler Barnes added 11.

Risco (0-9) will take on South Pemiscot at 4 p.m. on Friday during the tournament's seventh place game.

SIKESTON -- The Scott County Central Bravettes defeated South Pemiscot 53-37 Tuesday at home.

Johneisha Daniel led all scores with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Hailey Kesler added 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Kelly 58, Portageville 35

BENTON (SMNS) -- Tessa Johnson scored a game-high 18 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Hawks in the win at home over the Bulldogs.

Kristi Brucker netted 11 points and Logan Ivie added 10 points for Kelly (5-1).

Jill Kellams led with 16 points for Portageville.

Junior High Basketball

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston seventh and eighth grade basketball teams split with Charleston on Tuesday at the Sikeston Junior High School.

The Sikeston eighth grade team improved to 7-0 on the season with a thrilling 42-40 double overtime victory while the seventh graders fell to 4-5 in a 58-36 loss.

In the eighth grade game, Sikeston led by as much as 10 points but Charleston rallied to tie the game at 30-30 to send it into overtime.

Both teams remained deadlocked at 35-35 to force a second overtime where Sikeston was able to pull out the victory.

"It was a thrilling win for our team and a hard game for Charleston to lose," Sikeston coach Derek James said. "Charleston really played their hearts out and gave a great effort. But I'm so proud of our guys for digging in and showing some toughness to pull out the victory."

Sikeston was led by Kevin Jones with 22 points. Trey Jenkins followed up with 10 points. Charleston got 10 points from Zingo Spencer.

In the 7th grade game, Sikeston fell behind 34-15 at the half and couldn't make a dent in the lead in the second half as Charleston pulled away for the victory.

Payton Howard led the Bulldogs with 21 points.

Isaiah Gillespie led Charleston with 16 points followed by Terridean Bogan with 14 points and James Durden with 12.

Sikeston's junior high teams will be on the road at Cape Central today with the seventh grade game starting at 5 p.m.
