Man found dead after crash in New Madrid County

TALLAPOOSA - The body of a driver, killed in an accident Saturday morning, was discovered Sunday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's report, Byron M. Windham-Sharp, 21, of Gideon was apparently driving eastbound on County Road 248, one mile west of Tallapoosa, at 2 a.m. Saturday when his truck ran off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a telephone box, then went off a bridge, overturning in a ditch.

After the accident was discovered Sunday, Windham-Sharp was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:15 p.m. by New Madrid County Coroner George DeLisle.

Assisting the Highway Patrol at the scene were officers from the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department, Dunklin County Sheriff's Department, Malden Police Department and the Portageville Fire Department.

Several other accidents were also reported by the Highway Patrol over the weekend.

At 2:20 p.m. Sunday on Highway 80, three miles west of East Prairie, a westbound vehicle driven by Bridget R. Murphy, 20, of New Madrid, attempted to pass as a westbound vehicle driven by Brandon L. Munson, 33,of East Prairie was making a left turn. The collision resulted in extensive damage to Murphy's vehicle and moderate damage to Munson's vehicle, according to the Patrol's report.

Murphy had minor injuries from the accident. She was taken by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston for treatment.

On Highway 25, one mile north of Advance, Brandy A. Vermillion, 35, of Advance was driving northbound at 8:35 a.m. Sunday when her vehicle slid off the roadway, the Patrol reported. Vermillion's vehicle struck the ground and overturned.

Vermillion was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for treatment of minor injuries.

A driver had minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident at 2:30 a.m. Sunday on Highway M, two miles east of Chaffee.

Charles D. Worley, 45, of Chaffee was driving westbound when his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then overturned several times.

He was taken to Saint Francis Medical Center for treatment.

On Stoddard County Road 743, north of County Road 766, Michael J. Gibson, 23, of Bernie was driving northbound at 7:30 p.m. Saturday when his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then struck a ditch and overturned.

Gibson received moderate injuries in the crash and a passenger, Allyson H. Stafford, 18, of Malden, had minor injuries. They were taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center for treatment.

At 6:10 p.m. Saturday on Highway 51, a half mile north of Broseley, Tabatha L. Oakley, 36, of Gideon was driving southbound when her vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned, according to the Highway Patrol.

Oakley, who had minor injuries, was taken by ambulance to the Black River Medical Center at Poplar Bluff for treatment.
