Local man faces charges for stealing computer
BENTON -- An investigation into a stolen computer led to the arrest of a Sikeston man.
Dustin Allen Oakes, 18, is charged with felony stealing following an investigation which began Saturday after Scott County Deputy Danny Finley spoke with a Morley resident who reported her Hewlett-Packard 310 Touchsmart laptop computer was stolen.
"Deputy Finley was advised by the victim the computer had been stolen from a residence outside of Benton in November 2014," according to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter. "The victim stated she had located her computer on the website 'Sell It SEMO' for sale by a subject in Benton."
On Sunday, Finley contacted the Benton resident who had listed the computer for sale. Finley was given permission to enter the residence where he located the computer and matched the serial number on the computer with the stolen computer.
