Miner has a new city clerk, now needs a police captain
MINER -- A Miner police captain's move to a city administration role will be a permanent one.
The Miner Board of Alderman approved Mayor Darren Chapman's appointment of Darrin Skinner to the city clerk position during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday.
Skinner was hired as temporary city clerk for a 90-day period in October after the previous city clerk, Stephanie Turner, was terminated for alleged dishonest acts.
Following a state audit report on Miner's municipal court released earlier this month in which auditors found city clerks had not deposited about $14,398 recorded by the court as having been received, Turner was charged with felony theft by Scott County Prosecutor Paul Boyd.
Skinner's appointment is not for a set term, according to Tabatha Thurman, city attorney, as a conflict between state statutes and the city's collective bargaining agreement have not yet been resolved.
