Area municipal and school board races underway
As filings end on Tuesday for the Municipal and School Board elections, four races have developed -
the Portageville mayor's seat and two seats on the Portageville School Board. Incumbent Mayor Denis McCrate is being challenged by Ward Two Alderman Floyd Simmons. In Ward One, Jessie Jamies and Lynn Doering will campaign for the alderman's seat. Doering held that position several years ago.
Other filings include Joe DeLisle for reelection as Ward Two alderman, and Michele Crawford for City Collector.
On the Portageville School Board, there are two three-year terms, currently held by Derek Samples and Donney Benthal, that are set to expire in April. Two candidates have filed for those positions, Jason Crites and Ronnie Adams, Jr. As of press time Tuesday, Jason Crites had to withdrawal his name and Ronnie Adams Sr. filed in his place.
In addition, the New Madrid County R-1 School District will have two three-year terms, and one one-year term, that will become vacant in April. To date, filing for the two three-year terms are incumbents Jonthan Maloyed and Ralph Barnwell, Jr., as well as challengers Demetrius Moore and Scott Riley. Ryan Eddy has filed for the remaining one year of the unexpired term he was appointed to fill, following the resignation of Jason Redden during last school year.
