SIKESTON -- It was exactly a month ago when they last felt defeat and now, eight games later, the Bulldogs have yet another first to add to a season full of accomplishments.

Sikeston has won eight games in a row which is the longest winning streak during head coach Matt Schonhoff's tenure and is believed to be the longest in the program's history.

That streak continued Thursday when they went unchecked by Scott City 82-19 at the Sikeston Field House.

The new streak breaks a seven-game winning streak during the 2010-11 season, which was Schnohoff's first.

"Ever since we won the last two at St. Dominic and stubbed our toe against Farmington, we've played good basketball," Schonhoff said about the streak. "We've played some good teams and what we've done is preach intensity and one game at a time and we've done really well with that. Hopefully, the girls see the bigger picture of what we want to do. Tonight was another step."

Sikeston (14-4) was led by Tyeshia Mitchell's 15 points. The 5-9 sophomore also pulled down five rebounds and was 5 of 7 from the floor.

Erica Peet added 12 points, while Dominique Roach and Larysa McClellon each scored 10. McClellon, a 5-7 sophomore, led the team with eight rebounds and seven steals.

The Bulldogs wasted little time notching the wire to wire victory grabbing a 26-9 advantage after the first quarter. Peet scored 10 of her 12 in the first half to help guide Sikeston to a 44-15 halftime lead.

Mitchell, Roach and Kiera Steward each scored eight points in the third quarter. Sikeston outscored Scott City 30-4 during that same time and held the Rams scoreless in the final frame.

Scott City was led by Michaela Kiefer's seven points while Carly Howell added five for the Rams, who were fresh off its first win of the season on Tuesday against East Prairie. Scott City is now 1-16 on the year.

"We wanted to come out with great intensity," Schonhoff said. "There were a few times we got lost but all in all there was good intensity by everyone. Even in our halfcourt defense we were still very active."

Schonhoff believed Thursday's game would be a great way to head into one of the more heightened SEMO Conference girls matchups of recent memory at Jackson on Monday.

Sikeston is 3-0 in the SEMO Conference standings and tied with the only other unbeaten conference team, Dexter, who's 1-0.

"They've been hit by the injury bug this year," Schonhoff said about Jackson. "That's very unfortunate for them but, at the same time, they are still winning basketball games. Nothing is going to be taken lightly. We have to have two very good days of practice to be able to compete against them. It's another step towards one of our goals for conference."

Jackson's 57-52 loss to Poplar Bluff on Thursday, which was their first conference loss, has given Sikeston a window of opportunity hardly ever seen before when it comes to winning the conference's regular season title.

Sikeston's remaining conference games include Jackson, Cape Central and Dexter.

"It was be another first for our program," Schonhoff said. "Our focus now is towards them and I know they're focus is on us. It should be a very good SEMO Conference matchup.
