Scenario may change because of wet ground and forecasted rain

SIKESTON -- Like any good military leader, Rick Justice of Sikeston, commanding officer of the 10th Tennessee Cavalry, has been carefully considering the conditions. But strategies by Justice this year are focused on not tearing up the ground rather than taking it to the enemy.

As things stand now, The Battle of Sand Ridge Civil War Re-enactment will take place as scheduled Saturday and Sunday at the Scott Matthews Farm on the south side of Highway 60 about a mile east of the South Main interchange in Sikeston.

"We might change up the scenario a bit because of the ground," Justice said. "It's still kind of wet out there."

Missouri weather being what it is, this isn't the first time over the years that the weather has threatened the event -- or worse.

"We've been snowed out, we've been rained out," Justice recalled. "We've had several of them we've had to cancel."

But the concern isn't for the re-enactors, he said. Civil War re-enactors are diehards.
