CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Sikeston senior Gabe Wheeler shot a 73 to win the individual championship during Monday's 16th Annual Notre Dame Invitational at Bent Creek Golf Course in Cape Girardeau.
This is Wheeler's first Notre Dame Invitational win.
Sikeston finished sixth as a team after shooting a combined 343 in the 12-team tournament. Notre Dame won the tournament with a 313 followed by Nixa (327) and Jackson (328). Poplar Bluff and Farmington round out the top five. Dexter and Park Hills Central tied for seventh with a 369.

ORAN -- Oran fell to visiting Valle Catholic Monday 11-0 in five innings via the mercy rule.
Valle got on the board with a run in the top of the first before stringing back-to-back four-run innings together in the second and third frames. A run in the fourth put the marcy-rule in effect and Valle scored one more run in the fifth.
Jacob Priggel had the Eagles' lone hit, a single, to break up the no-hitter.

Adam Pope picked up the win on the mound. He pitched four innings and gave up one earned run on one hit with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Christian Job and Logan Callahan each doubled for Notre Dame (1-2).
Blake Simmons took the loss. He pitched three innings and allowed 11 runs --10 earned-- on 11 hits with one strikeout and three walks.

CHAFFEE (SMNS) -- The Malden boys captured first place in 11 events to post a dominating win at the six-team Chaffee Open.
The Green Wave swept the relays and won all but one of the field events to be the only team to finish in triple digits in the team points. Scott City took first in three events to finish a distant second. The host Red Devils were paced by Logan Chapman's two first-place finishes in the 100 and 200 dashes.
On the girls' side, Chaffee took first in five events to beat Malden by 25 points. Oran placed first in four events to finish eight points behind the Green Wave for third place. Kaylen Glastetter recorded first-place finishes in two events for the Eagles.
