SIKESTON -- A Sikeston resident involved in nearly every aspect of youth sports will be recognized on the Sikeston Park Board's Honors Board this spring.
Jeff Miles will be the 44th volunteer's name installed on the board since 1986, when the Park Board began recognizing outstanding men and women who have made significant contributions to youth programs in Sikeston.
Miles' volunteer efforts have included youth football, baseball, basketball and soccer as a coach, league officer, sponsor and worker.
It was his parents who first introduced him to youth sports, Miles recalled. They volunteered with the local Little League program as he began playing T-ball as an 8-year-old.
"Youth sports was always such an important part of my life as a boy so I just wanted to give back and serve as a coach and on boards for the community," Miles said. His contributions to local youth sports began shortly after returning to Sikeston from college, becoming involved with the Jaycee Little League Football program as a volunteer with the concession stands and outfitting players with uniforms.
