SIKESTON -- The Sikeston R-6 Board of Education will outsource its custodial services in the new school year.
"We've had some long discussions about this process," said Lori Boardman, R-6 Business Director. "We had lengthy discussions at our work session last week."
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Sikeston school board voted unanimously to award the bid for outsourcing the district's custodial services to ABBCO Service Company based in St. Louis.
"As the Board knows, the Affordable Care Act mandates all employees working 30 or more hours a week be offered affordable insurance by their employer at the time of their 2015 renewal, which is June 1 for the school," Boardman said.
When the district did a look-back period for the last 11 months, that meant it would be adding an additional 97 employees to the current plan, Boardman said. With the Board paying 80 percent, that would increase benefit expenditures by about $600,000, she said.
