PORTAGEVILLE -- A woman was killed when the vehicle she was riding in struck a parked tractor-trailer rig. At 6 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 55, three miles south of Portageville, a southbound vehicle driven by Jessica M. Richmond, 33, of Sikeston ran off the roadway. PORTAGEVILLE -- A woman was killed when the vehicle she was riding in struck a parked tractor-trailer rig.

At 6 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 55, three miles south of Portageville, a southbound vehicle driven by Jessica M. Richmond, 33, of Sikeston ran off the roadway. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's report, the vehicle struck the rear of a parked tractor and trailer, driven by Edward J. Fournie, 60, of Freeburg, Ill.

After the impact, Richmond's vehicle slid off the roadway and struck a cable barrier, the Patrol reported.

Richmond was seriously injured in the crash. She was taken by air ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

White was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:55 p.m. by Pemiscot County Coroner Jim Brimhall.

At 10:10 a.m. Sunday on County Road 401, just south of Highway 77 in Scott County, Payne A. Pruitt, 22, of Cape Girardeau was driving northbound when his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then struck a utility pole, according to the Highway Patrol's report.

Payne, who had minor injuries, was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center for treatment.
