If you were to stand before God and He were to say to you, "Why should I let you in to my heaven?" What would you say? Many people do not know what they would say, either because they have never been saved or because they lack assurance that they are saved or they may not have a clear understanding of the gospel. If you do not know then I have good news for you. Eternal life is a free gift. It cannot be earned. It is not deserved. It is a free gift that must be received by grace through faith.
The default position of every person born into this world is that they are a sinner, separated from God, lost, and on their way to an eternal hell. The Bible says in Roman 3:23 "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." But the good news of the gospel is that God loves you and wants to save you. In John 3:16 Jesus said, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." The Bible says in 1 John 4:10, "Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins."
God loves you and wants to save you. 1 Timothy 2:3-4 says, "For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth." Because God wants to save you He sent His only Son to die for your sins. Romans 5:8 tells us, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." And in 1 Peter 3:18 we read, "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:"
In order to be saved and become a Christian you must repent (turn away) from sin and trust (depend on and receive as Lord) Jesus Christ and His death as full and final payment for you sin. The Bible puts it like this, "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;" (Acts 3:19). And in John 1:12, "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:" You can do that right where you are right now. Just talk to God in your heart saying something like this, "Lord Jesus, thank you for loving me. I know I am a sinner. I believe that You died on the cross to forgive my sin. I repent of my sin and surrender my life totally to you. Come into my heart and life and save me, Lord Jesus. In your name I pray, Amen." I hope that if you have never been saved that you will be saved today. I hope that in heaven one day you can say to God, "Nothing in my hand do I bring, simply to thy cross I cling." Remember that God loves you and so does First Baptist Church.
