CHARLESTON -- After one week on targeted projects, Mississippi County's road and bridge department has half of them done.
Carlin Bennett, presiding commissioner, listed during the Commission's April 23 meeting eight jobs the department could quickly complete despite wet conditions.
Bennett reported during the Commission's regular meeting Thursday that:
* The department finished placing rip rap around an old steel trestle bridge on County Road 319 to stabilize a bank and the drainage district's officials have have agreed to move a weir farther from the bridge.
"They said that wouldn't be a problem," Bennett said.
* A culvert was replaced with a larger steel pipe on County Road 410 near State Highway 105.
* A pipe was installed under County Road 521.
* Erosion in a bank of Ditch 14 at a bend was repaired.
"I believe that took about 15 loads of rip rap," Bennett said.
Part of the cause of the scouring was water going around a blockage in the ditch, Bennett said.
"And hopefully they dug the blockage out -- I told them to," he said. "So we got four out of eight completed in one week."
