SIKESTON -- Not only will the annual Sikeston in Bloom event offer fun activities and shopping opportunities, but it will also include a car show and mark the start of the downtown farmers' market season.

"We wanted to make a bigger event this year," said Historic Downtown Sikeston Director Lynn Lancaster about Bloom.

Set for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 9 at American Legion Park in downtown Sikeston, Bloom will include a live plants sale from multiple vendors, craft and food vendors, pony rides, carriage rides, story time by Sikeston Public Library and downtown store sidewalk sales.

"We'll have several food vendors with all kinds of different foods. There will be jewelry and all sorts of crafts for sale," Lancaster said.

And Bloom is offered just in time for Mother's Day -- either to bring out mom for the day or find her a gift from a vendor or downtown merchant, Lancaster noted.

Musicians are also scheduled to perform under the new bandstand in the park, he said.

Vendors of the award-winning Historic Downtown Sikeston Farmer's usually begin setting up between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m., Lancaster said.

"Many people are anticipating the return of the farmers' market," Lancaster said.
