CHARLESTON -- Mississippi County Commissioners will call off the county's code enforcement officer from a property located near East Prairie.

Raymond Ellis of rural East Prairie met with Commissioners during their regular weekly meeting Friday to discuss allegations that his property on Crow Lane located just outside of East Prairie city limits is not in compliance with the county's nuisance ordinance.

Ellis described how, after being advised by neighbors of "white cars creeping about" and "a red pickup down there poking around" near his property, he recently confronted Ken Stevenson, county code enforcement officer, and "asked him what was going on with my place."

The "junk cars" mentioned by Stevenson as part of the problem aren't really junk at all, according to Ellis.

"That's my livelihood," he explained. "I sell those things every once in awhile when I can, make a few bucks."
