SIKESTON -- The Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority has closed on the first major sale of LCRA properties for a redevelopment project.
"We've sold 13 lots on Felker and Young Street to Lincoln University," said Dan Marshall, chairman of the LCRA. "This is a major stepping stone for redevelopment in the LCRA area. It should bring a boost in interest in residential development or possibly in building other government service facilities."
Lincoln University purchased lots located on the north end of the block between Felker and Young, where the main building will be located across North Street from Lincoln Park on the old Compress building land.
"The way I understand it, it will face the park," Marshall said.
The Lincoln University Cooperative Extension in Sikeston currently operates out of a leased 2,000 square-foot building that has limited parking.
