PREP ROUNDUP: Helms breaks Sikeston's goal record during 6-0 rout

FREDERICKTOWN -- Junior Torrie Helms broke the single season goal record for Sikeston with her 28th score of the season Thursday during a 6-0 road rout over Fredericktown.

Mackenzie Yant scored two goals and had three assists. Helms, Grace Hamra, Claudea Kuykendall and Kyra Rainwater each had one goal. Sydney Henson and Kayla Graham both had one assist.

Sikeston goes into the Class 3, District 1 tournament as the third seed with a 13-10 record and will face second-seeded Cape Central at 7 p.m. on Monday at Cape Central High School.

BASEBALL

Scott City 14, Oak Ridge 0

OAK RIDGE -- Trent Pobst blasted a triple to lead the Rams in the easy five-inning road victory to close out the regular season on a high note.

Tyler Rogers was the winning pitcher for Scott City (16-12). He threw two innings and gave up one hit with one strikeout and one walk.

Joe Grieme took the loss on the mound for Oak Ridge (2-16). He pitched 1/3 inning and allowed six runs on three hits with one walk.

BONNE TERRE -- The Sikeston junior varsity baseball team finished its season on a good note Wednesday behind eight hits in five innings.

Brandon Hurt was the winning pitcher after a complete game effort.

Peyton Kennard, Camden Sapp, Bryce Bays, McKenzie Worth, Lucas Boner, Max Ault, Ben Ray and Blaine Goodman all had singles.

Sikeston ends its year with a 9-8 record.
