Charleston native James Naile is just one of many local athletes attending college and excelling at the next stage this spring.
The 2011 graduate of Charleston High School was recently named to the All-Conference USA first team after a comeback season from injury for the University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers baseball team. He's the 16th player in UAB history to earn first-team honors. The redshirt junior right-hander finished the regular season with a 9-3 record, a 2.36 ERA and 83 strikeouts. He held opponents to a .198 batting average, which led all C-USA pitchers.
__Tyler Anderson -- Murray State__ Sikeston native Tyler Anderson was selected to the All-Freshman Ohio Valley Conference team after leading Murray State with a 3.16 ERA. Anderson had a 2-2 record in 25.2 innings while striking out 41 and had a Racers-best .253 opponent batting average. He will spend his summer playing for the Jamestown Jammers, who are now part of the Prospect League, an amateur collegiate summer baseball league. Jamestown is the same place Anderson played in 2008 while in the 13-year old Babe Ruth World Series.
__Trey Tigart -- Webster University__ The 2013 graduate of Sikeston High School helped Webster University to a NCAA III Waterloo Regional win which puts the Gorlocks in their third D-III Championship 'World Series' in four years. Tigart, the team's closer, leads the Gorlocks with six saves in 17 2/3 innings pitched. He's appeared in 15 games is 0-2 with a 5.09 ERA and has struck out 23. Webster is one of eight teams who will play in the national tournament and will take on Courtland State in the first round.
__Kelly Robey -- Union University__ The senior has earned numerous softball honors while at Union with a nod to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-South Region second-team being the latest. She has already been named to the All-GSC and Daktronics All-South Region second team. The New Madrid County Central graduate finished her senior season with an overall record of 28-14. She had an ERA of 1.70 in 263 innings with 327 strikeouts. She appeared in 44 of 50 games which included 37 starts, 33 complete games and 10 shutouts.
__Betsy Borgsmiller -- Missouri State__ Borgsmiller, a Sikeston graduate, competed in six indoor meets this track season which included a second-place finish at the Missouri Invitational in the high jump with a height of 1.56m. She tied for third at the Arkansas Invitational at 1.50m. She recorded a season high 1.63m jump at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational to place 16th. Out outdoor meets she competed in four events and jumped a career-best 1.65m to tie for sixth at the Missouri Valley Conference outdoor championships.
__Alex Heuring -- Three Rivers College__ The Oran graduate led the Raiders in RBI with 27 and tied for the lead with three home runs in 41 games his sophomore season. He added seven doubles, seven triples, seven stolen bases while hitting .295.
__Kody Moore -- Three Rivers College__ Moore played in 30 games while hitting .326 with 16 RBI for the Raiders in his sophomore season. He added nine doubles, 13 walks and six stolen bases. Moore, along with teammate Alex Heuring, were part of winning Oran's first baseball state championship in 2013.
__Drew Harper -- Jefferson College__ The Sikeston native played in 23 games, hit .221 and drew 19 walks for the Vikings. The redshirt freshman drove in eight RBI and also had a double.
__Doug Still -- Jefferson College__ Still pitched in 11 games and started nine for a 5-2 record his freshman year. The Sikeston graduate pitched two complete games, had an ERA of 4.70 and had 42 strikeouts. The Atlanta Braves' 33rd round draft pick tied for second on the team with his five wins on the year.
__Chase Young -- Freed Hardeman__ The Dexter native played in 14 games, hit .383 and scored 16 runs during his sophomore year. Young added one home run, seven doubles and eight RBIs for the NAIA school in Henderson, Tenn.
__Brad Potts -- Shawnee Community College__ Potts appeared in six games, posted a 4-1 record and 3.26 ERA during his sophomore year with the Saints. Potts graduated from Dexter in 2013 and has signed on to play for Evangel University, an NAIA Division I college, the next four years.
__Jashawn McDaniel -- St. Charles Community College__ The 2013 New Madrid County Central graduate led St. Charles with 58 2/3 innings pitched in 12 games and seven starts for a 1-9 record. He pitched two complete games with 41 strikeouts and had an ERA of 9.05 his sophomore year.
__Sydney Davied -- William's Baptist__ The Sikeston native was an academic all-conference selection after 16 starts and 22 games played. Davied hit .300, scored 12 runs, hit one home run with four RBIs.
__Jared Walker -- Shawnee Community College__ The Chaffee graduate played in 19 games and batted .273 his freshman season. He added four RBIs, two doubles and pitched one inning.
__Chance Maness -- Shawnee Community College__ The freshman pitched in three games for the Saints posting an 8.10 ERA in 3 1/3 innings. Maness graduated from Charleston in 2014.
__Tim Fox -- Mineral Area College__ The Bloomfield native played in 22 games, hit .243, stole two bases and had two RBIs during his freshman season.
__Taylor Nenninger -- Three Rivers College__ In 19 at-bats, the Oran graduate batted .579 drove in 10 runs and hit four doubles in 12 games.
__Jarrett Sandlin -- Rend Lake College__ The Sikeston native led the Warriors in appearances with 17 games and pitched 21 2/3 innings. Sandlin, a freshman posted a record of 2-1 with an ERA of 3.32.
