SIKESTON -- The rain forced the 2015 Honors Board ceremony indoors but it failed to dampen the crowd's enthusiasm for the 44th honoree - Jeff Miles.
Miles was recognized Thursday for his "outstanding contributions to Sikeston's youth football, basketball, baseball and soccer programs," said Jeff Hay, chairman of the Sikeston Park Board.
Miles involvement in Sikeston's youth sports began as a young player taking part in summer baseball programs, Hay said. When Miles returned to Sikeston following college, he wanted to give back to his community and became involved with the Jaycee Little League Football program.
According to Hay, Miles has served as a coach for soccer, Little League baseball and YMCA basketball. In addition, he has served on the League's board of directors and currently is treasurer for the YMCA Board.
Miles was praised for the range of his involvement with the sports program, including preparing fields prior to games, picking up trash after games, assisting in resodding baseball fields and willingness to donate his time and money to help with the youth sports programs.
Hay pointed out in the nomination letter for Miles to the Honors Board, he was praised for his ability to motivate children in a positive way.
