CHARLESTON -- With no other bidders this time around, Mississippi County will again hire the same trucking company for hauling road gravel.
County commissioners awarded a year-long contract to the sole bidder, JSH Trucking of Matthews, during their their regular weekly meeting Thursday.
JSH Trucking will haul up to 8,000 tons of limestone gravel from a Cape Girardeau quarry for $5.25 ton; up to 8,000 tons of white silica rock from Tamms, Ill., at $5.21; and up to 2,000 tons of red clay gravel from Dexter for $5.41 per ton.
Carlin Bennett, presiding county commissioner, said the price is lower than the previous rock hauling contract even though the county got only a single bid this time and it was from the same company that had the previous contract.
