Modern Woodmen honors Korea-Vietnam vet w/photo
SIKESTON -- Modern Woodmen of America Chapter 12077 recently honored Sikeston resident John Cray as a Hometown Hero for his service to our country.
Cray entered the Army in 1949 serving in Korea, Japan and Vietnam before being honorably discharged in 1955. Cray was a medic, helping the wounded in the field.
"We are grateful to John and all of our servicemen who have given their service," said Ron Ledbetter, district representative of Modern Woodmen of America.
MWA is a fraternal insurance company established in 1883, offering a complete line of insurance and retirement programs.

Allen Morris joins Century 21 team
CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Allen Morris is the newest member of the Century 21 team. He resides in Jackson with his wife, Melanie and son Tyler, who is now 20 years old. Morris' background includes a degree in Industrial Technology with top notch experience in housing design and inspection. "Allen will be such an asset to the team with his knowledge of design and knowing what inspectors look for in a home," stated Tim Merideth, owner and broker at Century 21 Ashland Realty.
"I love the outdoors and have actually worked at Bass Pro Shops corporate office in the past!" Morris said. As an avid outdoorsman and member of multiple conservation groups, Morris will focus on land management. He will also bring this expertise to the marketing and sales of hunting ground throughout Southeast Missouri.

Mitchell is awarded Pettus Award of Excellence
ST. LOUIS -- Former Charleston High School teacher, Roosevelt Mitchell III, was recognized by his administration and colleagues for both his dedication and talents, by being awarded the 2014-2015 Pettus Award of Excellence.
The award, named after James W. Pettus Foundation, is the schools Teacher of the Year Award. Mitchell teaches at Gateway-Michael Special Education School for the St. Louis Public School District. The competitive award recognizes outstanding teachers and principals who inspire their students, help create a successful culture of learning in their schools, and are respected and admired by their students, parents, and colleagues.
In addition to a personal glass desktop award and the larger wood plaque, which will be displayed prominently in the school that he teaches, Mitchell also received a $1,000 award.
