FFA chapter marks year of successes

NEW MADRID - At the New Madrid County Central third annual FFA awards banquet on April 21, students and excelling FFA members were honored. Also Jonathan Maloyed and Gina Smith were named honorary members of the chapter.

There were 24 FFA members that received the Greenhand FFA Degree. These were: Madison Adams, Skylar Archie, Darius Austin, Jessica Brewer, Logan Broughton, Mckayla Burris, Tripp Cravens, Dylan Curry, Alexis Ervin, Bailey Halterman, Austin Hise, Courtney Ivie, Dakota Ivie, Landon Martinez, Drew Palmer, Dylan Porter, Jonathan Powell, Lauren Riggs, Cassie Ruark, Faith Scott, Maria Turley, Ahniea White, Kyler Williams, Ryan Williams, Kyle Whiffen and Chris Young.

The FFA chapter also handed out nine awards for the Chapter FFA Degree. The students who received that award were: Tristen Akridge, Austin Blasingain, Steven Brewer, Beth Clark, Andrew Cooper, Cody Cummins, Gauge Heady, Kelsey Morgan and Rebecca Spencer!

The Agriculture Education Completion Award is given to students who complete and participate in the agriculture education course. The students who received this award were: Logan Archie, Christina Clark, Alec Collier, Cecil Felton, Willie Jimerson, Aaliyah Mosby, Alyssa Redden, Noah Sprouse, Shalandrius Taylor, Noah Sprouse, Kadeja Thomas, Abby Chaney, TJ Clark, Isaac Cooper, Austin Ervin, Warren McPhail, Collin Putnam, Laurel Russell, Breanna Shaw, Jake Terrell, Darian Tindle and Mikeal Walker!

Fifteen students who were awarded proficiency awards participation in their SAEs. The students honored for their hard work were: Madison Adams - second place in Ag Communications; Logan Broughton - third place in Divisions Crop Production and third place in Oil and Fiber Crop Production; McKayla Burris - third place in Food Services; Mercade Campbell - second place in Food Services, first place in Chapter and second place at area for Agriculture Services; Andrew Cooper - first place in Chapter and first place at area for Environmental, second place in Diverse Crop Production; Tripp Cravens - second place in Ag Sales; Cody Cummins - first place in Ag Sales; third in Turf Grass Management; and first in Ag Mechanics and Repair; Gauge Heady - first place in Outdoor Recreation; Austin Hise - first place in Grain Production; Dakota Ivie- second place Oil and Fiber Crop Production and first Place Diverse Crop Production; Lauren Riggs - third place in Ag Communications, first place in Poultry, first place in Ag Education, first place in Vegetable Production and first place in Small Animal; Ahniea White - first place in Ag Communications; Kyler Williams - second place is Landscape Management; Grayson York - first place in Turf Grass Management, first place in Food Services and first place in Landscape Management; and Chris Young - first in Chapter and first in area for Community Development, second place in Outdoor Recreation, and second place in Turf Grass Management.

The Chapter also participated in Spring Leadership Development Events. Laurel Riggs, Alexis Ervin, Ahniea White and Madison Adams competed in FFA Knowledge and were area competitors. There were also many other FFA members who placed in the Spring Leadership Development Events including: Kelsey Morgan - third place at area for FFA Secretary's Book, Jessica Brewer - second place at area for FFA Chapter Scrapbook, Lauren Riggs - third at area and district competitor for Division 1 Public Speaking, Beth Clark - third place at area and district area for Advanced Public Speaking, Cody Cummins - first at area and state competitor for Complete Placement Record Book, and Mercade Campbell- first at area and state competitor for Complete Ownership Record Book.

Ellen. Amos' fifth hour Ag Business class participated in the "Make Your Own Cooperative Contest" sponsored by the Missouri Institute of Cooperatives. They won the Southeast District Competition and also placed second in state. This class came together and started their own business together by paying dues and selling mason jar snow globes and candy jars to community members. The cooperative earned $503 and received a $250 prize for winning districts plus an extra $500 prize for their efforts. The money was then divided among them with each student receiving $112. These students were: Kelsey Morgan, Courtney Ivie, Beth Clark, Landon Martinez, Alec Collier, Chris Young, Jonathan Powell, Jake Terrell and Sydney Cummins.

Leadership awards were given to students who have shown exceptional leadership skills throughout the year and have attended many FFA events and have participated in competitions. Receiving the Leadership Award were Lauren Riggs, Mercade Campbell, Chris Young, Ahniea White, Cody Cummins, Jessica Brewer, Kelsey Morgan, Beth Clark, Madison Adams and Cassandra Ruark.

The Scholarship Award goes to students who have maintained a 3.0 GPA throughout high school. The FFA members that received this award were: Madison Adams, Jessica Brewer, McKayla Burris, Bailey Halterman, Dakota Ivie, Drew Palmer, Darius Austin, Logan Broughton, Beth Clark, Courtney Ivie, Kelsey Morgan, Lauren Riggs, Maria Turley and Ahniea White.

Three students were recognized for the outstanding things they have done while being FFA members. Lauren Riggs was awarded the NMCC FFA Greenhand; Chris Young, the Star Chapter Placement Award; and Mercade Campbell, the Star Chapter Agribusiness Award.

New FFA chapter officers for the 2015-2016 school year are: Kelsey Morgan, president; Mercade Campbell, vice president; Lauren Riggs, first vice president; Beth Clark, secretary; Madison Adam, treasurer; Courtney Ivie, reporter; Ahniea White, sentinel and Jessica Brewer, historian.
