SIKESTON -- Sikeston City Council members are hoping for a better looking representation of a cotton boll but have given their OK on the basic look and colors for new city signs.

Linda Lowes, director of governmental services, presented the Council with "the basic sign design" for new wayfinding signs and monument signs to be placed around the city beginning this fiscal year.

City staff was asked by the Council during the most recent budget preparation to come up with and implement a program for placing new signs directing visitors to places around the community as well as monument signs letting visitors know they are entering the city.

A preliminary master plan was developed by working with the representatives from the Convention and Visitors Bureau, city Department of Public Works, Chamber of Commerce and Historic Downtown Sikeston, according to Linda Lowes, director of governmental services for the city.

Lowes projected PowerPoint images to ensure "everybody agrees on the design and color."
