Dakota Ray finished with a hat trick while the Sikeston soccer team knocked around Fredericktown 9-2 to open its season on the road.

Brett Johnson added two goals while Kenya Marshall, Conner Merideth and Sam Cox added one goal each. Matthew Menz also scored just 17 seconds into the game. That's believed to be Sikeston's quickest goal in school history.

Sikeston (1-0) led 5-1 at halftime.

The junior varsity defeated Fredericktown 2-0 behind goals from Brett Johnson and Adam Comstock with assists from Will Pratt and Jacob Hyde.

The Bulldogs will take part in the Greg Kline Invitational tournament starting Friday in Carbondale, Ill. Sikeston will play Chatham-Glenwood on the East Field at 5:30 p.m.

__Volleyball__

__Sikeston 2, Cape Central 0__

The Sikeston volleyball team opened its season with a two set win over Cape Central Monday at the Sikeston Field House.

Sikeston (1-0) won 25-17, 25-17.

Cape Central (0-1) won the junior varsity game 21-25, 25-12 and 25-22.

Sikeston will host Bernie tonight.

__Kennett 2, Oran 1__

Cheyenne Dobbs opened the season with three aces but Oran suffered a three-set loss to Kennett Monday on the road.

Brianna Stause added two kills and two blocks while McKenzie Belt and Kaitlyn Wittu chipped in two aces.

Oran will be on the road again on Monday when they travel to Oak Ridge.

__Sikeston 34, NMCC 0__

Sikeston shutout visiting New Madrid County Central during each team's season opener.

Will Leonard scored Sikeston's first touchdown with a fumble recovery in the end zone with 6:33 left in the first quarter. Titus Fields scored on a 15-yard run with 1:30 left in the second quarter to give Sikeston (1-0) a 14-0 lead at halftime.

Fields broke loose again in the third, this time from 65 yards away to give Sikeston a 20-0 advantage. A NMCC (0-1) fumble that was scooped up and returned 35 yards by Scottie Herrion in the third quarter and an 8-yard run by Damon Alexander rounded out the scoring for Sikeston.

__Portageville 28, Sikeston 22__

The Portageville junior varsity defeated Sikeston's ninth grade team 28-22.

Trent Elliot, Elijah Faulkner and Sean Blanchfield each scored touchdowns for Sikeston.

__Malden 42, Dexter 6__

(SMNS) Malden ran for six touchdowns on its way to a 42-6 road win against Dexter Monday night.

The Green Wave scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and two more in the second quarter as it built a 34-0 lead by halftime.

Malden added its final score with 3:16 left in the third period.

Dexter set the final score when it put a 57-yard touchdown drive together that ended with a seven-yard touchdown rush by Kris Rinehart with 3:25 left in regulation.

Malden had 25 carries for 357 yards and Dexter had 20 carries for 95 yards.

Malden standout Trey Stevenson rushed for a game-high 205 yards and scored four touchdowns on the ground.

Tye Miller ran for Malden's other two touchdowns. Miller had a team-high 10 carries for 122 yards.

Caleb Hoggard paced Dexter on the ground with eight carries for 48 yards. Kris Rinehart added four carries for 21 yards and Jeff Featherston had seven carries for 23 yards.
