PREP ROUNDUP: Hughes pitches Kelly to first win, Oran out-hits Senath

Anna Hughes picked up the win as the Kelly softball team won its season opener against Chaffee Tuesday 3-2.

Kelly (1-0) scored two in the third and one more in the fifth. Chaffee scored one run in the sixth and seventh.

Hughes struck out three, walked four and allowed five hits through six innings. Freshman Alyssa Tidwell earned the save walking one, giving up two hits and striking out one.

Freshman Kenzie Koepp led Kelly with two hits and McKynlee Neumeyer added a 2-run home run in the third inning.

Chaffee (0-1) will host Notre Dame today at 4:30 p.m., while Kelly hosts East Carter on Thursday at 4 p.m.

GIRLS TENNIS

Jackson 7, Sikeston 2

The Sikeston tennis team fell to 0-2 on the year following a road loss to Jackson.

"Our two bright spots for the match were Ali Price and Hope Mannon," Sikeston tennis coach Russ Dial said. "They won they're doubles match and Ali won her singles match. Everyone improved from our last match."

Jackson (1-0) won the junior varsity portion 1-0.

Sikeston will host Poplar Bluff Thursday at 4 p.m.

The junior varsity tied 3-3.

Dexter travels to Cape Central on Thursday and Charleston hosts Kennett today at 4 p.m.

FALL BASEBALL

Oran 4, Senath-Hornersville 1

Layne Johnson pitched six innings and struck out four during Oran's home win against senath-Hornersville Tuesday.

Johnson gave up one run on five hits and two walks while his offense gave him a 3-0 lead after the first inning.

Drew Reischman led the Eagles (1-0) with two hits, including a double. Blake Overfield also had two singles.

Kyle Moore had two singles to lead Senath at the plate. Brady Bibbs gave up four runs (one earned) on six hits and four walks. He struck out six in six innings on the mound.
