Murder trial for Sikeston woman reset for Jan. 21
Davis is charged with second degree murder, armed criminal action from 2014 incident
CHARLESTON -- The murder trial for a Sikeston woman is reset for January.
Savannah R. Davis, 28, who is charged with second degree murder and armed criminal action is now scheduled for Jan. 21 and 22, 2016, in Mississippi County before Judge William H. Winchester. Originally Davis' trial was set for Sept. 17 and 18.
The charges stem from an incident on July 11, 2014, when John Sharber, 57, of Sikeston was found unconscious in the parking lot at Saint Francis Medical Center suffering from blunt force trauma to his head and internal injuries. He later died from his injuries.
During their investigation, Sikeston Department of Public Safety officers determined Sharber, who repairs appliances, had gone to the Wal-Mart parking on July 10, 2014, to meet a woman who was upset about work he had done for her or an appliance he had sold, according to the probable cause statement. Surveillance video showed Sharber leave his truck to talk to a person in a vehicle and as he started to walk away from the vehicle it pulled forward and ran over him then the car backed off of him.
The driver, later identified as Davis, with the assistance of two people in the parking lot put Sharber in her car. She reportedly told the two that she was going to take him home.
According to the probable cause statement, Davis drove around the back roads of Scott County and into Cape Girardeau for about three hours before leaving Sharber at the hospital.
Davis was later located in Blytheville, Ark., and arrested.
