STEELE - Two adults and two juveniles are facing charges in connection with a fire set at Joe Saliba Park.

On Sept. 22, Steele Police received a report of a fire which set inside the men's restroom at Saliba Park.

"Upon arrival officers found burned paper on floor inside the restroom. Fortunately there was no structure damage; the trash can was also missing from the restroom but was later recovered," said Steele Chief of Police Billy Joe Stanfield. He noted the trash can was damaged by fire also.

During the course of investigation, Stanfield reported he interviewed several individuals. On Oct. 8, officers arrested two 17-year-old men from Steele in connection with the incident.

The suspects admitted the fire was deliberately set inside the restroom, Stanfield said in a news release.

The two 17-year-olds were charged with negligent burning and property damage; they were released from custody with summons to appear in Steele Municipal Court.

The two juveniles also from Steele were turned over to the Pemiscot County Juvenile authorities.
