SIKESTON -- A home was damaged following a fire early Monday in Sikeston.

Officers with Sikeston Department of Public Safety's Fire Division responded to a fire about 8 a.m. to a residence located at 108 Daniel Street in Sikeston, according to DPS incident reports.

An electrical outlet shorted near a wall socket and caught fire, which then spread within the wall to a dresser located in front of the socket, according to Capt. Jim McMillen.

Officers were able to contain the fire but returned to the scene about 9:45 a.m. when the fire rekindled, he said.

No one was at home at the time of the fire, and no one was injured during the incident, McMillen said. There was smoke damage throughout the home but no fire damage other than where the fire started, according to DPS.

A separate fire heavily damaged a second home Monday evening.

The Sikeston Department of Public Safety's fire division responded to a fire at 402 William St. at 9:24 p.m. Monday.
