New Madrid, MO --Associated Electric Cooperative recently hosted its Employee and Family Day at New Madrid Power Plant. More than 300 employees, family members and vendors attended the annual event. Family day gives employees the opportunity to spotlight their work, family and workplace safety, the cooperative business model and the plant's impact on the surrounding communities...

New Madrid, MO --Associated Electric Cooperative recently hosted its Employee and Family Day at New Madrid Power Plant. More than 300 employees, family members and vendors attended the annual event.

Family day gives employees the opportunity to spotlight their work, family and workplace safety, the cooperative business model and the plant's impact on the surrounding communities.

The Oct. 3 family day provided:

* Guided tours every 15 minutes via Delta Center wagons showing employees' family members the grounds and plant

* Vendor tent -- safety demonstrations and giveaways

* Games -- challenge a co-worker or friend to an obstacle course race, washers or corn hole

* Lunch -- Trisha's BBQ, Portageville, served fish and chicken lunches

Raffle -- a chance at a prize with proceeds benefitting American Cancer Society

Children were able to view Portageville Fire Department trucks, city of New Madrid police cars, coal-yard equipment, Ozark border Electric Cooperative bucket trucks, Missouri State Highway Patrol simulators and a medical helicopter. For more fun there was a bounce house and obstacle course, T-ball and football games and a decorate-your-own hard hat craft.
