3 injured in wreck on I-55 near Matthews

Sikeston Department of Public Safety, Missouri State Highway Patrol and Department of Natural Resources responded to a wreck early Friday in New Madrid County.

MATTHEWS -- Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Friday near Matthews.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at 6:45 a.m. Stephanie Ahart, 26, of Sikeston was traveling southbound on Interstate 55 when she struck the southbound tractor-trailer driven by John Cunningham, 47, of Lakeland, Tenn., causing his vehicle to run off the right side of the road into a water-filled ditch.

Ahart; her 4-year-old passenger, Starla Ahart of Sikeston; and Cunningham sustained minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
