Portageville, MO -- With the Food Rite store owner purchasing Baker's Big Star, Dr. Edwin Noffel approached the City Council last Monday requesting a liquor license for his new Food Rite Downtown. Portageville, MO -- With the Food Rite store owner purchasing Baker's Big Star, Dr. Edwin Noffel approached the City Council last Monday requesting a liquor license for his new Food Rite Downtown. The city only keeps nine licenses available and all have been taken. However, when the Charcoal Lounge gave up their permit, that became available. Alderman Berry made to motion to let the license go to Dr. Noffel and seconded by Alderman James, and the motion passed.

The council also let out bids for used equipment that was up for sale.

The council agreed to sell the 1999 Ford Ranger to Delta Auto Parts for $565, a 1998 Ford Ranger to Joe Scherer for $656, and a Grasshopper mower for $565 to Scherer as well. Alderman Berry made the motion and James seconded it and the motion passed.

There was some discussion on some outside security cameras, but that was tabled.

Police Chief Ronnie Adams brought in a representative from H&W Products out of Sikeston to discuss the need for upgraded radios. That item has been tabled for further study.

David Morris approached the council requesting help with sewage that has backed on his back yard.

After several minutes of discussion, the City agreed to have the street and sewage workers that a look at it and find where the leak is coming from. Morris had plumbers come look at the situation, and it was determined that the leak is on the city property.

Also, Four-Way Quick Shop ask that the City get a charge account set up so city vehicles can purchase gasoline from them. Currently, the City used Johnson's 66 and Griffin Oil and Propane.

Finally, the Council voted to have Delta Tree Service cut down dead trees at the end of West Fifth St. for $3200. Again, Alderman Berry made the motion with Alderman James seconding, and the motion passes.

After paying the monthly bills, the meeting was adjourned. The next monthly meeting for the City Council will be Monday, January Fourth.
