On Friday 12/18 the Bootheel Racers Swimming program gathered at the Diane Sayre Rec Center in Caruthersville for their annual holiday party. The young swimmers enjoyed a dinner from Little Pizza Heaven followed by cookies and treats baked by the families. A gift exchange followed the meal and the Racers gave thanks for their team. Coach Royer said the following during the event: "This time of year is about giving thanks for all of the good things in our lives. I am proud to be the coach of this team and it is amazing what we have created over the past three years. Our team and our athletes have grown and evolved and I am very proud of this. "

Following the meal at the Rec Center the Racers traveled to Blytheville in order to enjoy the Delta Lights display. Coach Royer rented two trailers and the team rode through the lights together. While the weather was cold, the team really enjoyed the event. During the planned stop half way through the display Royer purchased hot chocolate and popcorn for all who attended. The Christmas spirit was definitely evident as the young athletes celebrated together.

The Racers will be quite busy from now until the end of April. Each spring represents championship season in swimming. Multiple championship meets take place and several of the Racers are slated to make an impact. In early February the Racers will travel to Tunica, MS for the Mid South Swim Conference Championships. The Racers look to improve on their 3rd place team finish from last year. At the end of February some of the Racers will travel to the Ozark Swimming Division 1 Championships in St. Louis. And in March, some of the youngest Racers will compete in the Ozark Swimming 8 and under Championships at Pattonville High School.

Racers Swimming will host a home meet at the Caruthersville Rec Center on January 10th and on March 5th. Teams from TN, AR, and MO will attend these meets. The public is welcome to come watch the Racers in action. For more information about competitive swimming please contact Coach Royer at 573-333-0031 or Email at swimcoachspence@yahoo.com
