SIKESTON -- Last year was a record year for Economic Development in Sikeston.

"This will be the best year ever as far as number of different business that have built or expanded in Sikeston," Ed Dust, director of the Sikeston Sikeston Department of Economic Development, said Thursday of 2015.Nearly 20 permits for new construction or expansion issued by the city in 2015, according to the Sikeston DED.

Jon Douglass, city manager, noted in a comparative review of building permits issued by area cities for the year that "the value of commercial construction in Sikeston, $42 million, in 2015 so far is 2.5 times as much as Cape and Jackson combined."

Cape Girardeau in 2015 issued six commercial permits for a total value of $8,590,000 and Jackson issued seven for with a total value of $7,640,000.
