Gertie Mae Nowell

Gertie Mae Nowell was born January 10, 1920 in Bearden, AR to Wade McPeak and Vina Campbell McPeak. She died Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems in Hayti at the age of 95 years, 8 months, and 21 days.

Gertie was united in marriage to Dock Marshall Nowell on January 12, 1935 in Caruthersville. Eleven children were born to this union. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1970. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Vina Campbell McPeak and Wade McPeak, her brothers, Jasper McPeak, Samual McPeak, Albert Mason, Lee Mason, J.C. McPeak, Rufus McPeak, and E.L. McPeak, and her sisters, Nola Mason, Nellie Arnella Mason, and Allie Bell McPeak. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Keenagers, and taught Sunday school class for many years. Gertie loved being with her family and sewing.

She leaves to cherish her memories three sons, Wade Douglas Nowell, Dwight Marshall Nowell and Roger Dale Nowell; Eight daughters, Patricia June Davidson, Pasty Mae Roberts, Bobbie Mariditha Goodman Searles, Vonnie Lee Snelling, Alinda Sue Frame, Tonya Faye Swims, Peggy Jo Nowell, and Teresa Ann Walker LemmerBrock; 39 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at DeLisle Funeral Home with Rev. John Compere officiating. Burial followed in the Portageville Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers were her grandchildren.
