BENTON -- The city of Miner's former city clerk was ordered to pay nearly $15,000 in restitution and place on five years probation for stealing city court funds.
Stephanie Turner, 40, of Portageville pleaded guilty Dec. 22 to the class C felony of stealing $500 or more but less than $25,000.
Turner was sentenced Tuesday by Judge T. Lynn Brown, a special judge for sentencing, to five years supervised probation and ordered to pay restitutions of $5,000; $5,139.85; and $4,258.15.
She was charged with felony theft/stealing by Scott County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Boyd on Dec. 22, 2014, after a state audit of the municipal court discovered about $14,398 had not been deposited from the court that was recorded by the court as having been received. There were also altered records to hide the embezzlement.
Turner was previously employed by the city of Miner as an administrative assistant for a number of years but then was appointed to serve as as interim city clerk following the resignation of Danielle Patrick until the next annual city clerk appointment by the Board of Aldermen.
