Speakout

What a pain

I'd like to speakout about a certain clinic. I just received a letter letting me go as a patient because of my medications. The only narcotic medications that I have were given to me by my doctor at this clinic. And now then it's something about my medication. Why do the doctors give you medication and then they pin you down like you are some kinda junkie or something. This doesn't make sense and it's not fair and I don't appreciate it. Why do they give this medication to you and then pin you as a junkie? I took nothing except what the doctor gave me!

McDougall would be McBetter

I think McDougall Street would make a better street to be named for Dr. King than Main Street.

Our way on the highway

I saw on the news the other night where some people were wanting Main Street changed to Martin Luther King and they were going to keep screaming and hollering until they get their way. The thing about it is, that's not being Christian. Basically what they're saying is that they are gonna keep throwing tantrums until they get their way. It's wrong. I do not want the street name changed to Dr. King.

A costly change

I would like to speakout on the meeting that was held by the City Council and the group that is wanting to change the name of Main Street. I, as a business owner who owns property on Main Street, am outraged that I was not notified by the City Council that there would be a meeting. I think all businesses on Main Street should be notified by the City Council when there are meetings in regards to the property they own. I would like to find out who, if this passes, who is going to be responsible for paying for all these businesses who are going to have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to change their letterhead, envelopes, business cards, everything about their business? Who will actually pay for that? Is this some group who wants to make changes at someone else's expense? I'd like to know if any of these people who are wanting to make this change, do they own any property on Main Street? I hope all the business owners who are on this street ban together against this nonsense. Main Street needs to stay Main Street. If you want to honor Martin Luther King, do it on another street. Main Street is where people from out of town come. It brings business to our city and helps it to thrive. All business owners on Main Street need to be consulted and notified before another meeting is held.

Change is not fair

Once again, we have a group of people who want to make changes at the expense of taxpayers. We have a group of people wanting to change Main Street, but yet they want the business owners on Main Street to pay that expense, and I don't think that's fair. They want to rant and rave and want changes, but when it comes down to the bottomline, it doesn't cost them anything. If you want to make changes, make them on the west end of town where you have businesses. Right now the businesses on Main Street are just trying to survive and don't need any changes.

No Main is unimaginable

I lived in the Sikeston area for over 40 years. I cannot imagine Main Street being changed. What's the matter with these people?

Cut a little off the top

I would like to speakout about all the cutbacks. They always cutback the people that work and leave the supervisors and all those people that don't do much of anything but sit in their offices. Why don't they cut some of them back instead of the people that don't make much money to start with? Cut from the top instead of the bottom. You need to cut the office workers to. If you're gonna get rid of some, give everybody the same treatment. The people who work for minimum wage need their money just as much as the big shots do.

Brainwashed and blind

I read the letter to the editor in the Feb. 29 paper that said Republicans are for the rich and Democrats are for the poor. If it wasn't so sad it would be comical how blind and brainwashed these people really are. It's the Democrat party that supported the big rich landowners and the Republican party that freed the poorest of the poor, the American slaves. The Republicans passed the Civil Rights Act in the 1960s while the rich southern Democrats tried to block it every way they could. It's the Republican party that provides a good atmosphere for businesses, where people can have pride in their work, own their own homes, a car and property. Its the Democrats that put the African Americans back in slavery by putting them on a government handout.

A simple question

BMU utility bills for March. So now BMU customers start paying for the new BMU building and the purchase of the old Bootheel Golf Course. The question is, why wasn't the money for the new BMU building golf course purchase, why wasn't that applied to the bond issue which has raised our rates 15 percent? It's a simple question.

Dream on

Why does Sikeston need to recognize Martin Luther King? He was not from this area so why does he need a street named after him? I also have a dream that all this nonsense stops and Main Street remains Main Street. If the street name changes from Main Street, I hope all those businesses located there leave town and take all their tax revenue money with them. If that happens, what kind of town would you have then? And who will support all these people who are wanting to make changes with other people paying for these changes?
