Sikeston's Fred Thatch was named the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Class 4 Player of the Year Wednesday after leading the Bulldogs to a fourth place finish at this year's Show-Me Showdown.

The 6-3 sophomore averaged a double-double at 20 points and 10 rebounds and is already Sikeston's fifth-leading scorer with 1,106 points throughout his two-year career. Thatch is also Sikeston's fifth all-time rebounder with 589.

"Being Class 4 Player of the Year is amazing," Thatch said. "Representing Sikeston and only being a sophomore and to receive this is an honor. I'm very thankful and to witness my hard work paying off, this motivates me to work even harder."

Sikeston finished the season as the fourth-ranked team according to the last MBCA Class 4 coaches poll and with a 28-3 record.

After being named Sikeston's first-ever recipient of the SEMO Conference's Bob Gray Award, Tyeshia Mitchell was also named to the MBCA Class 4 all-state girls team the same night.

Mitchell, a junior, is only the second Sikeston girls player to be named to an all-state team behind Tina Collins' selection in 1992.

Mitchell led Sikeston with 14 points and 12 rebounds per game and also chipped in 1.7 assists, 2.6 steals and shot 48 percent from the floor. She averaged 19 points in conference play and led her team to a school-record 22-5 record, which is the most wins in a single season. Sikeston also finished 10th in the last MBCA Class 4 state poll of the season, which is the first time any Sikeston girls team has been ranked in the Top 10.

In Class 2, Scott County Centra's Jeffery Porter, a senior, and Johneisha Daniel, a sophomore, were named all-state, as was Bloomfield senior Noah Vandiver.

Gideon seniors Kason Lawrence and Allen Earnheart were Class 1 selections as was Advance junior Dawson Mayo and Bell City junior Cole Nichols. On the girls' side, Oran freshman Leah Cauble was a first-time selection.

Malden senior Trevor Ison made the Class 3 all-state team along with Senath-Hornersville senior Kyle Moore.
