PREP ROUNDUP: Sikeston takes out NMCC in six innings, Chaffee holds off Kelly

SIKESTON -- Sikeston turned a one-run game into a mercy-rule rout by scoring 11 runs in two innings against New Madrid County Central Monday for a 17-7 SEMO Conference win.

The Bulldogs (2-2, 1-1 SEMO Conference) had 13 hits led by Blake Wolferding and his three doubles and four RBI. Wyatt Pratt, Bryce Bays and Max Ault each had two hits. Trey Smith added a double and three RBI.

Nate Self earned the win on the mound after 3 1/3 innings or work giving up two earned runs on three hits. He also struck out six and walked four.

NMCC's Jacob Keene blasted a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to cut Sikeston's lead to 4-3 but the Bulldogs responded with two runs in the bottom half and another six runs in the fifth for a 12-3 advantage.

NMCC put a small dent into its deficit with four runs in the top of the sixth, but Sikeston struck back with five in the bottom half to put the game away.

Palmer Campbell was the losing pitcher for NMCC (0-3, 0-1 SEMO Conference) after 4 2/3 innings. He allowed 12 runs (five earned) on 10 hits. He struck out eight and walked three.

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. (SMNS) -- Cole Priggel went 2 for 3 at bat as the Eagles were unable to handle the two-time defending Class 2 state champion and state-ranked Warriors in the six-inning loss in Ste. Genevieve, Mo.

Layne Johnson suffered the loss on the mound for Oran (1-2). He pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up eight earned runs on eight hits. He notched four strikeouts and three walks.

Nick Oberle went the distance to get the win for Valle Catholic (5-0). He struck out four and walked one.

Chris Loida had a double and drove in two runs to help propel the Warriors to victory.

(SMNS) -- Drew Reischman blasted a triple and drove in three runs but it was not enough as the Eagles were unable to withstand a sixth-inning rally in which the Bearcats erupted and posted 11 runs that proved insurmountable for the Eagles in their second game of the day in Ste. Genevieve, Mo.

Reischman also took the loss on the mound for Oran (1-3). He pitched five innings and gave up three earned runs on six hits. He struck out six and walked two.

Riley Mason was the winning pitcher. He threw six innings and allowed 11 runs (eight earned) on 15 hits. He struck out two and walked two. Spencer Owens got the save. He pitched one inning and gave up one earned run on three hits with no strikeouts or walks.

Jason Jarrell hit a double and batted in three runs to lead Dexter (3-3).

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Back-to-back walks with the bases loaded led the Red Devils to its home win over Kelly.

TJ Archer and AJ Owens drew consecutive walks in the bottom of the sixth inning to break the 6-all tie. Chaffee (5-1, 1-0 Scott-Mississippi Conference) finished with 11 hits led by Alec Bogenpohl, Austin Copeland and Kade Sullivan who each had two.

Breven Yarbro picked up the win after 2 2/3 innings of relief work. He gave up one unearned run while striking out two and walking three.

Kelly (1-3, 1-1 Scott-Mississippi Conference) scored six runs on just four hits. Ty Householder had a double.

Caden Hillemann took the loss on the mound for Scott City (4-2). He pitched two innings, gave up three runs (one earned) on three hits, walked one and struck out none.

Alex Guzman was the winning pitcher. He threw four innings and allowed four runs (one earned) on six hits. He recorded four strikeouts and three walks.

Guzman also tripled and batted in two runs to lead Bernie (2-0).

MARBLE HILL, Mo. (SMNS) -- Bobby Wright had a big day at bat and on the mound for the defending Class 1 state champions in their six-inning conference road rout over the Cardinals.

Wright reached base all of his four times at bat, including one double and drove in two runs to lead Bell City (4-0, 1-0 SCAA Conference). He went the distance on the mound and recorded 10 strikeouts for the Cubs.

Peyton Maddox contributed three RBIs and Cole Nichols added a double for the Cubs.

Keegan Cooper sustained the loss. He pitched four innings and gave up nine earned runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Connor Goodwin and Levi Green produced the lone two hits for Woodland (1-4, 1-2).

CHARLESTON, Mo. (SMNS) -- Johna Martin reached base both of her two times at bat as the Cardinals flew to victory over the host Blue Jays in the battle of the birds.

Hope Green got the win in the circle for Woodland (4-0). She pitched a no-hitter for two innings and struck out two. Krista Rhodes got the save. She threw three innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits. She struck out four and walked five.

Madyson McDermott went the distance and took the loss for Charleston. She gave up 12 earned runs, struck out 10 and walked four.

Delaney Stack notched a double and two RBIs to pace the Blue Jays.

Notre Dame 2, Sikeston 1

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Torrie Helms scored Sikeston's lone goal during the Bulldogs' SEMO Conference loss to host Notre Dame.

Notre Dame's Megan Heisserer scored the game's deciding goal in the 68th minute to put Notre Dame (2-0) up 2-0.

Helms' goal came just five minutes later to give Sikeston (0-3-2) an outside chance.

Kelly 1, Massac County (Ill.) 0

BENTON, Mo. (SMNS) -- Megan Walker netted the lone goal on a free kick with 9:46 left in the game to give the Hawks the win at home over the Patriots of Metropolis, Ill.

Goalkeeper Tori Duenne had three saves in the shutout as Kelly improved to 4-2.

JV -- Massac County (Metropolis, Ill.) won 3-1

SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Sikeston junior varsity baseball team picked up its first win of the season.

Will Pratt earned the win after pitching all five innings for the Bulldogs (1-0). Noah Hicks had three hits, Ben Ray added a triple and four RBI, while Nate Self served up a double.
