PREP ROUNDUP: Chaffee blisters SCC, Portageville downs Gideon

SIKESTON -- Brennan Miller pitched a two-hit shutout as the Chaffee Red Devils ran over Scott County Central 15-0 in five innings Tuesday during a Scott-Mississippi Conference contest.

Miller threw 80 pitches, struck out five and walked three.

Chaffee (7-2, 2-0 Scott-Mississippi Conference) pounded out 15 hits and Austin Copeland led that attack. Copeland finished the day with two doubles and six RBI behind a 4 for 4 performance at the dish. Alec Bogenpohl added three hits and three RBI while Landon Tenkhoff and A.J. Owens each chipped in a double and triple.

Jeffery Porter was the losing pitcher for SCC (2-1, 0-1) after four innings. Porter gave up seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits in his first career start. He also struck out three and walked one.

Porter and Gavin Pobst had Scott County Central's only two hits.

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. -- Hunter Gates had three hits and Tyler Daugherty pitched a solid five innings for the Bulldogs.

Gates went 3 for 4 with two doubles and Ian Torrey added two more doubles as Portageville (5-4) piled up eight hits. Jon Garrett Kellams had three RBI and Connor Barham added two RBI.

Daugherty allowed one earned run on one hit while walking six and striking out two. Barham pitched two innings of relief giving up no hits and walking one.

PERRYVILLE, Mo. (SMNS) -- Mitchell Proctor hit a double and drove in one run as the Hawks rallied in the final inning to nip the Indians by one run in the win on the road.

Levi Alsup pitched 4 2/3 innings to get the win for Kelly (3-7). He gave up one unearned run on three hits, struck out three and walked one. Nathan Vicenzi added a double and got the save for Alsup, throwing the final 2 1/3 innings and allowing five earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts and six walks.

Noah Niswonger took the loss on the mound in relief. He pitched one inning and gave up one unearned run on one hit with two strikeouts and no walks. Jordan Buchheit pitched the first six innings in which he allowed six runs (three earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and five walks for St. Vincent (5-2).

EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- The Bluejays had just two hits but capitalized on six errors to escape East Prairie in a conference battle on the road.

Charleston led 4-1 after the top of the seventh but the Eagles made a charge with two runs in the bottom half until eventually bowing out.

East Prairie (4-3, 0-2 Scott-Mississippi Conference) out-hit Charleston 6-2.

Luke Marcum had went 2 for 3 for the Eagles.

Dylan Baugh and Braxton Houseman had Charleston's two singles. Baugh finished with one RBI while Lee Thomas Moody added two more.

Blake Simmons earned the win on the mound for Charleston (8-4, 2-0) after seven innings. He allowed three earned runs on six hits and four walks. He also struck out five.

Steven Christian was charged with the loss after five innings. He gave up three runs (one earned) on two hits and five walks while striking out five.

BERNIE, Mo. -- Trey Kirkpatrick went 2 for 3 with a home run and a double to lead the undefeated Mules to a resounding home win over the defending Class 1 champions.

Kirkpatrick had four RBIs to lead Bernie's 8-hit attack. Brock Beacham, Owen Foster and Dalton Hobgood each added two hits as well.

Alex Guzman pitched the complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts. He gave up five hits and walked two.

The Mules (7-0, 3-0 Stoddard County Conference) are the fifth-ranked team in Class 2 according to the latest state coaches poll.

Bobby Wright allowed eight runs (six earned) on seven hits and seven walks in 5 1/3 innings for the Cubs (5-2, 2-1). He struck out five.

Cole Nichols led Bell City with his 2 for 4 performance at the dish.

Garrison Keene pitched a complete game to get the win for New Madrid County Central (2-3). He allowed two unearned runs, struck out nine and walked three.

Chase Silman added a double and two RBIs for the Eagles while Drew Pikey batted in five runs.

J. Brown took the loss on the mound for Malden (2-7). He threw 2 1/3 innings and gave up eight runs (seven earned) on six hits. He had one strikeout and walked five batters.

EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- Emma Pearson singled in Demisha Brown for the winning run in the Eagles' Scott-Mississippi Conference win.

The two teams combined for 35 hits in five innings.

Grace Sutton was the winning pitcher for East Prairie (3-0, 1-0 Scott-Mississippi Conference) despite giving up 18 hits and 10 earned runs. Sutton also struck out six and walked two.

Hailey Kesler was the losing pitcher for Scott Central after 4 2/3 innings. Kesler allowed 11 earned runs on 17 hits and five walks while striking out two.

Jocee Dunn and Jordan Harper had four hits each for the Eagles while Pearson finished with three.

Erica Townsend threw five innings to get the win in the circle for New Madrid County Central (5-1). She allowed one earned run on three hits, struck out nine and walked four. Nichole Lofton pitched the final two innings to get the save.

Karlie Frazier added two doubles for the Eagles.

Madyson McDermott went the distance to sustain the pitching loss for Charleston (1-3). She gave up five earned runs, struck out nine and walked five. She also belted a home run and drove in three runs to pace the Blue Jays.

McKenzie Graviett threw 6 1/3 innings to sustain the loss in the circle for Oran (0-3). She allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits. She struck out two and walked one.

Gracie Gargac was the winning pitcher. She threw a complete game and gave up three earned runs, struck out one and walked two.

IMPERIAL, Mo. (SMNS) -- Marissa Jones netted the lone goal of the game on an assist from Maegan Walker as the Hawks were victorious over the Cougars in the second round of the Windsor Tournament in Imperial, Mo.

Goalkeeper Tori Duenne had three saves in the shutout for Kelly (5-4).

Affton fell to 1-5 with the loss.
