BENTON, Mo. -- The citizens of Miner chose to keep their mayor during Tuesday's general municipal election, but they voted in a new alderman.
Incumbent Darren Chapman defeated Frank Tatum in his bid for a second term as mayor of Miner, 147 votes to 123 votes. In the Ward I council seat, Donald Foster was selected over Timothy Jackson with a vote of 72 to 67. Ward II voters chose Bill James over incumbent Janet Williams with a vote of 83 to 37.
In the Sikeston R-6 School District, incumbents Rebecca Steward and Scott Crumpecker defeated their challenger, John Graham. Steward netted 1,213 votes (1,024 in Scott County and 189 in New Madrid County). Crumpecker garnered 1,112 votes (951 Scott County votes and 161 New Madrid County), and Graham received 736 votes (570 in Scott County and 166 in New Madrid County).
Running unopposed in the city of Sikeston for three-year terms were Ryan Merideth for councilman at-large, 939 votes; Jon Gilmore for Ward 1 councilman, 497 votes; and Mary White-Ross for Ward 4 councilman, 96 votes. Merideth received 13 New Madrid County votes and White-Ross garnered 12 New Madrid County votes.
In the Scott County Central District, Lucy Alberson, 131 votes, and Travis Glueck, 128 votes, defeated Carmen Thomas, 77 votes, and Melette Pobst, 68 votes, in their bids for the two school board positions. Running unopposed for a two-year term was Steve Johnson, who received 178 votes.
