BENTON -- A Sikeston man faces burglary and domestic assault charges after allegedly throwing a child across a room and choking a pregnant woman.

Lonnie W. Ward, 45, is charged with felony first-degree burglary, two counts of felony first-degree domestic assault and felony endangering the welfare of a child.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said deputies responded on Sunday to County Highway 450 near Sikeston for a disturbance in progress. Deputies arrived and observed a broken window on the front porch. Contact was made with the victim who said her stepfather, Ward, had left prior to the deputies' arrival, Walter said.

"The victim said Ward broke into the residence by breaking the porch window. Ward then kicked the bedroom door open, threw her around and dragged her down the hallway by her hair," Walter said in a news release, adding the victim advised she is 8 months pregnant.

According to the victim, Ward then threw her 5-year-old daughter across the living room and shoved her 9-year-daughter.
