SIKESTON -- The Sikeston track team finished with 11 total first-place finishes during its own Sikeston Relays Friday at Sikeston Public Schools Stadium.
Other than two open events, the 100-meter dash and 1600-meter run, the Sikeston Relays combine all competitors times and distances for an overall score. No team scores were kept and a best overall was recorded in each field event. 10 schools competed in the boys meet and nine in the girls.
The highlight of the afternoon is the 4x100 thrower's relay giving those who never see the track a chance to run. Malden won the boys and girls thrower's relay. The boys had a time of 49.94 and the girls finished 1:09.85.
Earnest Fobbs had the best overall finish in both the triple and long jumps. Hobbs leaped 45-feet, 3 1/2-inches in the triple jump and 20-5 in the long.
Sikeston's Tyzeek Hill won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.15 by slightly edging Charleston's Tim Bruce (11.22). East Prairie's Deverence Jones took third with 11.32.
Patrick Matthews won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:53.61 for Malden, who had five first-place finishes throughout the day. The Green Wave won the combined shot put and discus. Nick Thompson had the best discus throw at 143-3 1/2.
East Prairie's Mason Tidwell had the best shot put toss at 49-8. Casey Gregory also topped the pole vault at 13-0.
On the girls side, Charleston's Danitra Jones won the 100 with a time of 12.44, just beating Sikeston's Antravia Green, who ran 12.81. Connor Watkins, also from Charleston, had the best overall high jump with a 5-2.
Sikeston's Gloria Bennett topped the discus with a 113-0 throw and Katie Smith finished at 9-0 in the pole vault.
