One killed in fiery crash
PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. - A driver was killed in a fiery crash Thursday evening.
At 6:15 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 55 near the 34 mile marker, Taylor R. Holcomb, 73, of Wilmington, N.C., was driving a southbound tractor-trailer rig when the vehicle ran off the roadway. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the vehicle struck a tree line and caught fire.
Holcomb was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:07 p.m. by New Madrid County Coroner George DeLisle. The death is the 16th recorded this year in the Troop E area.
Assisting the Patrol at the crash site were the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department, Portageville Police Department, Portageville Fire Department, Marston Fire Department and Gideon Fire Department.
