Ordinance approved closing out 2016 budget
SIKESTON - In addition to approving the budget for July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017, the Sikeston City Council approved several related ordinances.
City Clerk Carroll Couch noted not all expenditures can be anticipated when budgeting and asked the city council Wednesday to amend the Fiscal Year 2016 budget one last time.
The ordinance approved by the Council reflected several major events including the Santie Oil fire, airport terminal construction, repairs to fire apparatus ladder No. 2, roof damage in the Public Works Complex, grant activity, personnel and demolition of the Odd Fellows building.
For example, according to the Couch in the 2016 budget the city initially set aside $3,000 for fire suppression chemicals. However, due to the Santie Oil fire some $28,000 in fire suppression chemicals were used.
He noted the city received $74,000 in insurance proceeds to offset additional costs for personnel, fire hose and suppression chemicals used in relation to the Santie Oil fire.
Several other fund transfers were included in the amended budget as well.
