NEW MADRID, Mo. - A suspected thief is in custody, now law enforcement officials are trying to locate the rightful owners of stolen items.
The New Madrid County Sheriff's Department is currently working with the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department on several theft cases from north New Madrid County.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department, Stoddard County authorities recently arrested a suspect in several thefts in both counties. During a search of the suspect's vehicle, Stoddard County deputies located several items which they believed to be stolen.
While deputies were able to identify owners for most of the items, there are a few items we are still trying to determine the rightful owner.
"Some of the items identified belonged to a citizen living on County Highway 708. We believe, but are not 100 percent sure the unclaimed items may have been stolen from the same area," officials said.
