POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. - While Missourians are observing the Fourth of July, the Missouri Highway Patrol will be keeping watch on the state's roadways.

On Friday and Monday Troop E officers will take part in a peak travel crash reduction enforcement program in an effort to promote safety and to reduce the number of traffic crashes in the Troop E area, according to Captain Jeffrey N. Vitale, commanding officer of Troop E.

"This means Troop E will assign a trooper every 20 miles on Interstates 55 and 57, and on other selected secondary roads," he said. "The objective of the project is to place a trooper in close proximity of motorists who may need assistance and to enforce aggressively all traffic violations which may contribute to unsafe traveling conditions."

Vitale said the Patrol is committed to continuing to reduce crashes and fatalities through its education and enforcement efforts.
