BENTON, Mo. - For residents wondering about the floodplain map investigation, preliminary steps are underway.
The Scott County Commission gave its approval for a Conditional Letter of Map Revision in effort to reduce the flood coverage area in Sikeston and the surrounding area of Scott County, particularly on the north end of town.
After hearing feedback from residents, Sikeston City Council decided to hire a consultant out of Rolla in attempt to make revisions of the flood map and the Council been preparing proposed revisions since then.
According to Sikeston Public Works Director Jay Lancaster, the consultant will submit a CLOMR to state and federal agencies in about two weeks. They will have 90 days to review and respond.
"We don't expect them to take that long," said Lancaster.
